The Ministry of Energy and Green Transition has convened a high-level meeting with Ghana’s petroleum sector stakeholders to assess the potential impact of the ongoing Middle East crisis on the country’s fuel supply.

According to a statement from the Ministry, the engagement brought together representatives from the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), BOSTEnergies, Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs), Bulk Import, Distribution and Export Companies (BIDECs), and other industry players.

Discussions focused on heightened global oil market volatility, possible supply chain disruptions, freight cost fluctuations, and potential effects on domestic pricing and consumer welfare.

The Ministry quoted the Energy Minister, Dr John Abdulai Jinapor, as saying, “We need to be proactive in safeguarding Ghana’s energy supply reliability. Contingency measures are being reviewed and strengthened to minimise any potential adverse effects on the country arising from the current geopolitical tensions.”

He directed the NPA, the downstream sector regulator, to “intensify market surveillance and continue close coordination with industry stakeholders to ensure that anticipated supply disruptions are mitigated swiftly and effectively.”

The sector minister also charged all sector agencies to “maintain adequate strategic fuel stocks, enhance monitoring of international developments, and ensure stable nationwide distribution.”

The ministry reaffirmed that “all necessary measures are being explored to ensure sustained fuel availability and to mitigate undue hardship on consumers,” and assured the public that the government remains fully committed to protecting Ghana’s energy supply security.

The ministry said it will continue monitoring developments closely and provide timely updates as the situation evolves.
