Kennedy Osei Nyarko is Member of Parliament for Akim Swedru
Kennedy Osei Nyarko, the Member of Parliament for Akim Swedru, has raised concerns about economic management under the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government.
According to Osei Nyarko, in just 15 months in office, the NDC administration has borrowed a staggering GH¢17 billion to pay compensation for public sector workers.
This revelation comes at a time when the government has been touting its economic performance, citing a Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of $100 billion, inflation at 3.3%, and an exchange rate of 10.89.
With these seemingly positive indicators, the MP argues that the government should be able to generate sufficient revenue to meet its obligations without resorting to borrowing.
“I don’t remember any time in the entire eight years of the Akufo-Addo (NPP) administration that they resorted to borrowing money to pay for the compensation of public sector workers,” Osei Nyarko emphasised, drawing a comparison with the previous government.
He added, “Yet we accused the NPP government of criminally managing the economy, but now we see the NDC engaging in similar practices.”
