All these explanations are not necessary, this ban is even a good omen for us as a country which we should take advantage of. For it is said that, there is always a light at the end of the tunnel. All we need to do is to fix our irrigational system and encourage the farmers to do all year farming once they are assured of ready market they will cooperate fully. The government should also set up or revamp the defunct tomato manufacturing companies in the country to process about 50% of the tomatoes produced here for both export and local consumption. This will ensure that, as a country we will not waste our hard earned dollars to import even processed tomatoes from Burkina Faso.

I have not heard Ghanaians talking about tomatoes from Anloga, or its because its coming from the Volta Region.
Even the member of parliament for the Anlo Constituency does not promote tomatoes from Anloga, not only that the corn that is roasted and cooked along the streets of Accra come from Keta.
The state can dredge the Keta Lagoon to create more land for cultivation of many crops.
The soil is sandy and enable it to absorb water that is good for the cultivation of cereals and roots.

Protectionism is a policy that aims at safeguarding national interest.

Ghana resorted to a ban on export of soya beans to protect local poultry industry three years ago.

The ban on export of fresh tomatoes by Burkina Faso to neighboring countries, is a wakeup call for Ghana to take immediate steps to promote and support local production of fresh tomatoes for local consumption and agro processing.

Once upon a time , Ghana established tomato processing factories. We had meat processing industries. We also had glass and matches factories and many more including electrical and electronics (Sanyo, Akasanoma etc.).

We have all that it takes to be self sufficient in vegetables and other crops.
Our agroclimatic conditions are conducive for major crops. Our soils have been very fertile until unstoppable galamsey took over soil destruction. We have river bodies to supply water for small farmer holder crop production until, again Galamsey activities polluted almost all the river bodies. Financial support could be tapped from our gold export. Fifty percent (50%) of all earnings from Gold export should be invested in agriculture. This will also help restore soil fertility and detoxify the soil as well. The Gold comes from the soil, after all.
