Samuel Amoah is the Deputy Secretary of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU)
The Deputy Secretary for Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), Samuel Amoah, has urged drivers to be patient on increasing transport fares as discussions are still ongoing.
Speaking in an interview JoyNew’s the Pulse on Friday, March 3, 2026, he explained that authorities had planned to meet up the Ministry of Transport to address issues concerning transport rate, but due to the Easter holidays, a lot of the ministers are gone to their constituencies which is delaying the planned engagement.
“The minister has scheduled a meeting for Tuesday to discuss the way forward. Until this meeting takes place, we have not reached a conclusion on whether there will be an increment or the percentage, if any, that will be applied,” he said.
He further appealed to drivers to remain patient and avoid taking unauthorised actions, noting that the officials plan to finalise arrangements with the ministry before any decisions on fare adjustments will be announced.
GPRTU to hold emergency meeting over possible fare increment
He further assured members that updates would be provided promptly following the Tuesday meeting.
GPRTU had earlier called on the government to review taxes on petroleum products, warning of a potential increase in transport fares.
This follows the rising of global oil prices linked to ongoing Middle East tensions, including the Russia-Ukraine conflict, which continue to impact local fuel prices.
The GPRTU has indicated that while fares have remained unchanged for now, sustained fuel price hikes will force a review.
