The claim that the Director-General has increased his salary from GH¢38,000 to GH¢ 70,000 is false
Management of the National Lottery Authority has debunked claims that its Director-General, Mohammed Abdul-Salam, reduced staff salaries and unlawfully increased his own earnings.
According to a press release issued on Friday, April 10, 2026, the Authority described the allegations as false and damaging, insisting that the reports are intended to tarnish the image of its leadership.
“The information circulating is inaccurate, misleading, and has been distorted to damage the reputation of the Director-General,” the statement said.
Addressing the claims, management stated that no such decision has been taken since the Director-General assumed office.
“At no point since his assumption of office has the Director-General reduced staff salaries by 13% or any other percentage,” it stressed.
According to the Authority, what has been widely interpreted as a reduction is, in fact, a negotiated increase agreed upon through a transparent process.

“What is being claimed as a reduction is, in fact, an approved increase achieved through negotiation in a transparent, collaborative process verifiable by all parties involved,” the statement explained.
The NLA also dismissed reports suggesting that the Director-General had doubled his salary, describing such claims as entirely unfounded.
“The claim that the Director-General has increased his salary from GH¢ 38,000 to GH¢ 70,000 is entirely false,” it noted.
Management clarified that while salary adjustments may be under consideration, no changes have been implemented.
“No increment has therefore been effected,” the statement emphasised.
Regarding claims about rent allowances, the Authority rejected publicly circulating figures, stating they are inaccurate.
“The claim that the Director-General receives an annual payment of $108,000 or $228,000 as Rent Allowance is false,” it added.
The Authority further warned that it will pursue legal action against individuals and media outlets responsible for spreading what it described as false information.
“The Director-General has instructed his lawyers to take legal action against the media houses peddling these falsehoods,” the statement revealed.
Management urged the public to disregard the claims and maintain confidence in the leadership of the Authority.
