The Minister of Finance, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, says Ghana’s economy is showing clear signs of recovery with the country gradually moving toward debt sustainability after a difficult period.

According to him, attention is now shifting from stabilisation to driving growth that will create jobs and improve livelihoods.

His remarks followed a meeting with Ousmane Diagana, Regional Vice President for Western and Central Africa at the World Bank, during the ongoing IMF-World Bank Spring Meetings in Washington, D.C.

“Ghana has stabilised its economy and is firmly on the path to debt sustainability. We are now shifting focus from stabilisation to growth,” he said.

Forson explained that the next phase of government’s plan will target key sectors capable of stimulating economic activity and employment.

These include agriculture and agribusiness, energy development with emphasis on gas-to-power and gas-to-fertiliser, education and skills development, as well as infrastructure to support trade and the movement of goods.

He added that even as the country pursues growth, government will remain disciplined in its spending and ensure that vulnerable groups are protected.

“We will continue to uphold prudent fiscal management while safeguarding vulnerable groups,” he noted.

Dr Forson also highlighted the importance of continued support from the World Bank as Ghana works to consolidate its gains and build a stronger economy that benefits citizens across the country.
