The Communications Spokesperson for the Energy Ministry, Richmond Rockson, says the government’s decision to reduce fuel prices demonstrates its commitment to easing the burden on Ghanaians.

Speaking on JoyNews’ PM Express programme on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, he said the move by the John Dramani Mahama administration is aimed at supporting citizens as global economic pressures continue to affect fuel prices.

“This clearly shows that the Mahama government is people-centred and responsive to the needs of Ghanaians,” he stated.

His comments follow the government’s announcement of temporary measures to cushion consumers against rising fuel prices caused by developments on the international petroleum market.

CSOs propose GH¢1.65 fuel price cut

Under the policy, the government will absorb GH¢2 per litre on diesel and GH¢0.36 per litre on petrol, starting from April 16, 2026.

Rockson said the move will help reduce pressure on households, transport operators, and businesses already grappling with high costs.

“When global shocks threaten livelihoods, a responsible government must step in to protect its people, and that is exactly what this administration has done,” he said.

He added that the measure will be reviewed after one month, as the government continues to monitor the situation and determine the next steps.
