The Energy Ministry has confirmed a fire outbreak at the Akosombo Substation, urging the public to remain calm as emergency response teams and engineers work to contain the situation and assess the extent of the damage.

Speaking to the media, Richmond Rockson, the Spokesperson and Director of Communication for the Energy Ministry, confirmed that a major incident had occurred at the facility, one of the country’s critical power infrastructure hubs. While details remain limited, the official emphasised that the situation is being actively assessed.

“I can confirm there’s been a major incident at the Akosombo Substation,” the spokesperson stated. “These are machines, so sometimes it happens. Engineers have been mobilised to assess the extent of the damage.”

As a precautionary measure, all operational units at the substation have been shut down. According to the ministry, this step is necessary to safeguard both the integrity of the system and the safety of personnel working to resolve the issue.

“It’s a fluid situation,” the spokesperson continued, “but I wish to assure the general public not to panic. The engineers are working to fix this temporary challenge.”

Energy experts have already been deployed to the site, working under tight conditions to diagnose the fault and begin restoration efforts. While the full impact of the incident is not yet clear, officials insist that contingency measures are being considered to minimise disruptions.

For now, authorities are urging calm as technical teams race against time to stabilise operations and restore normalcy.
