The latest Food Insecurity Vulnerability Report by the Ghana Statistical Service, shows that approximately 2.6 million individuals are classified as food insecure, despite 91 percent of the population reporting acceptable food intake, although Ghana continues to record strong overall food consumption levels, a significant number of people still lack reliable access to proper nutrition.

The report, which covers the last quarter of 2025, indicates that about 29.8 million people are considered food secure.

However, this national figure conceals notable regional imbalances.

The situation is more severe in the northern parts of the country, particularly the North East Region, Northern Region, Upper East Region, and Upper West Region, where nearly 40 percent of households fall within poor or borderline food consumption levels.

In contrast, more than ten other regions report that over 95 percent of households have sufficient food intake.

The findings point to ongoing disparities in access to food, highlighting the need for focused interventions in the most affected areas.
