The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has announced a planned maintenance exercise in the Western Region on Monday, April 27, 2026, as efforts continue to address widespread power outages affecting parts of the country.
The exercise follows a fire outbreak at the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) substation at Akosombo, as well as multiple network faults recorded on Sunday.
ECG indicated that the maintenance works in the Western Region will take place between 9:00 am and 4:00 pm, with several communities expected to experience temporary power interruptions.

The affected areas include Bogoso township, Bawdie, Ankonsia, Adamanso Dewurampong, Mansiso, Wassa Akropong, Samang, Adesu, Dadieso, Assikuma, Subriso Nanakor, Japa, Abenabena, Nkonya, Ntwitwina, Abeisiwa, Jonjoso, Abotareye, Hiawa, Nkakaa, Manso Amenfi, Akyekyere, Bonuama, Suroso, Asankragwa, Mota, Kwesi Bokoro, Aboi Nkwata, Dunkwa, Enchi, Samreboi, Moseaso, Asakra Breman, Odumasi and surrounding communities.
According to the company, the seven-hour outage forms part of essential works aimed at upgrading infrastructure and improving power supply reliability across the region.
The planned maintenance comes on the back of recent disruptions caused by a fire incident at GRIDCo’s Akosombo substation on Sunday, April 26, 2026, which affected power supply to parts of the Central Region.
As a result, the ECG earlier announced a temporary power curtailment from 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm in several Central Region communities.
Areas impacted in the Central Region include Blue Kiosk, Teacher Block Factory, Anigye-Krom, Opeikuma, Asamoa, parts of Colombo, CP, Lawyer, Nyanyanu, Budunburam, Nkwantenan, Tipper Junction, Roman, Evalip, Wallantu, Gateway, Newtown, Kuwait, Galilea Market, TV3 enclave, New Market, American Town, Congo Villa, Akweley, Otta City, Top Town, Nurses Quarters, Denchira, Domeabra, Kpormotey, Ashalaja and nearby communities.
The ECG assured customers that electricity supply would be restored as soon as the situation stabilises and the voltage profile improves.
Meanwhile, the Tema Region also experienced significant outages on Sunday due to multiple network faults within the ECG distribution system.
One of the faults disrupted supply to communities such as Kpong, Nuaso, Agormanya, Odumase, Kojonya, Atua, Somanya and adjoining areas.
A separate fault affected a wider stretch of communities including Lashibi, Klagon, Communities 13 to 20, Sakumono Village, Sakumono Estates, Nungua Township, Regional Maritime University enclave, Graceland, Kpoo Keke, Coco Beach, Buade, Adogonno, Abrantie, Danadams, Glow Lamp, Basket, Frimpongmaa Estates, Coastal Estates, Junction Mall area, Regimanuel Estates, parts of Spintex Road, Texpo and Baatsonaa.
The company further assured the public that its engineers are working around the clock to resolve all faults while stressing that the maintenance works are critical to strengthening the overall power distribution network.
