Prof Nana Ama Browne Klutse is the CEO of the Environmental Protection Authority
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA), Professor Nana Ama Browne Klutse, has issued a strong warning to mining companies, urging them to take full responsibility for activities within their concessions and clamp down on illegal mining operations.
Speaking in an interview with ChannelOne TV, on April 28, 2026, Prof Browne Klutse stressed that companies operating legally cannot afford to turn a blind eye to illegal activities occurring on lands under their control.
Her remarks come amid growing concerns about illegal mining, commonly known as “galamsey,” and its impact on the environment and water bodies across Ghana.

“I would say to companies mining in Ghana to take ownership of their concessions and be responsible. They must not allow illegal mining activities on their concessions,” she said.
According to her, failure to act against illegal operators within concession areas could be interpreted as complicity.
“When we come and find that you are allowing such activities, we take it that you are complying or working with them,” she cautioned.

Prof Browne Klutse made it clear that regulators will not hesitate to enforce the law where breaches are identified.
She explained that sanctions will depend on the severity of the violation, ranging from financial penalties to the possible revocation of mining licences.
“If we have to revoke your licence, we will do that. If penalties are required, it will depend on the scale of non-compliance,” she stated.
While she did not go into full details, Prof Browne referenced ongoing concerns involving Adamus Resources Limited, stating that issues related to the company had already been outlined in a prior statement.
“Allowing illegal activities on their concession is one of the issues we have with them,” she indicated.
