The Chief Executive Officer of PSC Tema Shipyard, Alhaji Osman Sulemana, has assured customers that the company will resume full operations by Wednesday, July 8, 2026, after last week’s floods disrupted activities at the facility.

Speaking in an interview on Channel One TV on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, Sulemana said the flooding affected Dock One, but Dock Two remained operational and continued to serve vessels, helping to minimise the impact on the company’s operations.

“The most important thing is the fact that we are back on track. We have engaged the engineers, and they have reassured us that we will be back in operation, probably by Wednesday or latest. We should be back to full capacity and operation,” he said.

Sulemana said the flooding was the first incident of its kind at the shipyard.

He added that the company had identified the cause of the flooding and was taking measures to prevent a recurrence.

“The occurrence on the 29th is the first of its kind. We are overwhelmed, but lessons have been learned. We have identified some of the issues as engineering-related and have taken pragmatic steps to prevent the flow of water in the future,” he said.

He explained that the flooding was caused by rainwater entering the facility and not seawater.

According to him, the company would construct structures to prevent rainwater from entering the shipyard in future.

“Water was not coming from the sea. The rainwater was able to pass through the gallery. The most important thing is that we will put in place structures that will prevent any future occurrence,” he added.

The floods, which followed heavy rains last week, damaged parts of the shipyard but did not completely halt operations, as activities continued at Dock Two while repairs were carried out.

Management said the swift restoration efforts demonstrate the company’s commitment to maintaining operations as it works towards becoming one of Africa’s leading ship repair and dry-docking centres.
