Bahamas renews work permits for Ghanaian construction and engineering workers

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has announced that the Government of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas has agreed to renew work permits for Ghanaian nationals working in the construction and engineering sectors.

The decision follows successful engagements between Ghanaian authorities and officials of The Bahamas aimed at resolving concerns affecting Ghanaians employed under private business initiatives.

“The Government of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas has agreed to renew work permits for Ghanaians in the construction and engineering sector who have been working under private business initiatives,” he said.

In a post made on X by the minister on July 13, 2026, he said the matter had been settled through constructive discussions, paving the way for affected workers to continue their employment.

“We have successfully resolved the issue following constructive discussions,” He stated

He expressed appreciation to the Minister of State for Immigration in The Bahamas, Darron S. Pickstock, for his role in addressing the matter.

The development is expected to provide relief to Ghanaian professionals in the construction and engineering sectors who have been working in the Caribbean country through private sector arrangements.
