Floods won’t cost jobs at Ghana Digital Centres - Sam George

The Minister of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, has assured employees of Ghana Digital Centres Limited (GDCL) that their jobs are secure despite the recent floods that disrupted operations at the Accra Digital Centre.

The assurance follows the Ministry’s decision to reverse an earlier move by GDCL management to suspend the employment contracts of all staff after the June 29 floods damaged sections of the state-owned technology hub.

The Ministry, addressing the Board, management and staff on Monday, July 13, 2026, described the suspension as unacceptable and directed management to immediately reinstate affected workers, reaffirming the government’s commitment to safeguarding jobs during the recovery process.

The minister stressed that no employee would lose their job because of the disaster.

“We are not laying off any staff of GDCL, whether temporarily or permanently, because of the flood. Every one of you is assured of the continuity of your jobs,” he said

While guaranteeing job security, the minister urged management and staff to use the disruption as an opportunity to reposition the company into a financially sustainable state-owned enterprise.

He said the recovery process should go beyond restoring normal operations and instead focus on improving efficiency, strengthening corporate governance and enhancing the Centre’s commercial performance.

“Let’s take this as the reset of the reset. Every staff member will have to play their role because it’s not going to be business as usual,” he stated.

He expressed confidence that GDCL has the resources and assets needed to become a profitable organisation, adding that management would be held accountable for delivering improved financial performance.

“With the assets you hold, there is no excuse for GDCL not to be profitable. It will not fail, not under my watch,” he said.

Although operations were disrupted by the June 29 floods, recovery efforts are ongoing as government works to restore business activities and maintain investor and tenant confidence in the country’s digital innovation ecosystem
