Ghana International Bank (GHIB) and the Ghana Export-Import Bank (GEXIM) have strengthened their strategic partnership to accelerate Ghana's export-led growth by improving local businesses' access to international markets, trade finance, and global banking services.

The two institutions reached the agreement following high-level discussions on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, aimed at supporting Ghanaian exporters and businesses seeking to expand into regional and international markets.

As part of the partnership, GHIB and GEXIM have agreed to sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) and a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to provide a framework for future cooperation.

Speaking on the partnership, Chief Executive Officer of Ghana International Bank, Ian Greenstreet, described the collaboration as a natural fit that would strengthen Ghana's position in international trade.

"GHIB is the natural international banking partner for GEXIM. Our institutions occupy complementary positions within Ghana's economic architecture and, together, provide many of the essential building blocks required to transform Ghana into a leading trading hub and export destination," he said.

According to him, while GEXIM provides the financing and support required for Ghanaian businesses to produce and export, GHIB will connect those businesses to international financial systems and markets.

"GEXIM supports Ghanaian businesses to produce, grow and export. GHIB connects those businesses to the global financial system," he stated.

He further noted that the bank would leverage its expertise in correspondent banking, treasury and foreign exchange solutions, syndicated finance, commodity finance, and international trade services to help Ghanaian businesses attract investment and compete globally.

"Through our expertise in correspondent banking, treasury solutions, syndicated finance, commodity finance and international trade, we are committed to helping Ghanaian businesses access international markets, attract investment and compete successfully on the global stage," he added.

Chief Executive Officer of GEXIM, Sylvester Mensah, also said the partnership would provide stronger support for Ghanaian enterprises, particularly micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), seeking to participate in regional and global value chains.

According to him, GEXIM's vision is to develop globally competitive Ghanaian businesses capable of succeeding beyond the domestic market.

"Our vision is to build globally competitive Ghanaian businesses capable of succeeding in regional and international markets," Mensah said.

He explained that, beyond providing financing, GEXIM also offers advisory services, mentorship, export readiness programmes, digital solutions, and innovative financing structures to help businesses grow sustainably.

"Our partnership with GHIB extends that support by connecting Ghanaian businesses to international banking services, global financial networks and new market opportunities. Together, we are creating stronger pathways for exporters to scale their businesses and contribute meaningfully to Ghana's economic transformation," he noted.

The partnership is expected to combine GEXIM's domestic export financing capabilities with GHIB's international banking expertise to provide end-to-end support for exporters, from production and export readiness to trade execution, settlement, and access to global financial markets.
