MIIF posts GH¢1.1 billion profit in 2025 - Report

The Minerals Income Investment Fund (MIIF) recorded an audited profit of GH¢1.1 billion in 2025, despite a more than 98% reduction in its statutory share of mineral royalties and dividend income following amendments to its governing law.

The Fund also reported a record GH¢5.39 billion in mineral royalty receipts for the first half of 2026, exceeding its target by 186.1% and more than doubling the GH¢2.6 billion collected during the same period last year.

The half‑year collections are nearly equal to the GH¢5.43 billion mobilised throughout 2025.

The Chief Executive Officer of MIIF, Justina Nelson, attributed the strong performance to resilient gold production, favourable international gold prices, and sustained compliance efforts across the mining sector.

She expressed confidence that these factors would support royalty growth in the second half of the year, while cautioning that weaker gold prices, operational disruptions, and illegal mining remain key risks.

“Addressing these risks through enhanced stakeholder engagement, strengthened enforcement, and continued compliance interventions will be critical to sustaining royalty growth during the second half of 2026,” she said.

Large‑scale gold mining accounted for more than 98% of total royalty receipts, generating GH¢5.31 billion on the back of higher gold prices, Ghana’s sliding‑scale royalty regime, and intensified compliance monitoring.

Medium scale gold operations also exceeded expectations, while sand royalties outperformed both budget targets and last year’s performance due to stronger enforcement measures.

Despite the sharp reduction in statutory revenue allocation under the Minerals Income Investment Fund (Amendment) Act, 2025 (Act 1137), MIIF said it strengthened its financial position by growing retained earnings, improving its equity base, and reducing liabilities, underscoring resilience in a challenging operating environment.
