Government releases GH¢1.1 billion for agricultural programmes

The government has released GH¢1.1 billion to the Ministry of Food and Agriculture to support key agricultural programmes under its campaign commitments, Finance Minister, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson has revealed

Presenting the 2026 Mid-Year Budget Review to Parliament, on July 23,2026, he said the funds had been paid to support flagship initiatives including the National Food Buffer Stock Company, fertiliser and certified seed distribution, the Feed Ghana programme, and irrigation infrastructure development.

He said the investment forms part of government’s efforts to strengthen food production, improve agricultural productivity and support farmers across the country.

“To fulfil our campaign promises, an amount of GH¢1.1 billion to the Ministry of Food and Agriculture for flagship programmes, including the National Food Buffer Stock Company, fertiliser and certified seed distribution, Feed Ghana and irrigation infrastructure, has been paid,” he stated.

The Finance Minister also disclosed that GH¢551 million had been paid into an escrow account to facilitate the establishment of a letter of credit for the creation of Farmer Service Centres.

According to him, the initiative is aimed at modernising Ghana’s agricultural sector by providing farmers with improved access to essential services, inputs and equipment.

“To modernise agriculture through the establishment of Farmer Service Centres, an amount of GH¢551 million into an escrow account for the establishment of a letter of credit has been paid,” he added.

The government says the investments are expected to boost agricultural production, enhance food security and create more opportunities within the agricultural value chain.
