Mid-Year Budget Review: Government does not seek supplementary estimates - Ato Forson

The Minister for Finance, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, has announced that the government is not seeking a supplementary estimate for the 2026 fiscal budget review, emphasising that the previously approved expenditure remains unchanged.

Presenting the 2026 Mid-Year Budget Review in Parliament on Thursday, July 23, 2026, Dr Forson noted that the government has been able to reduce budget deficits; hence, there is no need to revise the budget upward.

“Mr Speaker, I am not here to seek a supplementary estimate; the 2026 appropriations remain unchanged,” he stated.

“However, we are undertaking a strategic realignment of expenditures within the existing appropriations,” he added.

According to Dr Ato Forson, the intent of the review is simply to update the House on the performance of the economy and the implementation of policies, not to request additional spending.

The Minister's statement reflects the government's careful fiscal management amid high public interest in its expenditure and borrowing plans for the remainder of the year.
