Dr Cassiel Ato Forson is the Finance Minister
The Minister of Finance, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, has announced that the upcoming 2027 Budget will introduce a new initiative dubbed the “New Economy,” which he described as the next phase of Ghana’s economic recovery.
Speaking on JoyNews, Dr Forson said the government’s first two years in office were dedicated to making difficult decisions to stabilise the economy, sacrifices he noted were borne not only by the government but by all Ghanaians.
“We’ve come far. You sacrificed. We have all sacrificed. We need to protect the gains we have made and use that as the platform to take off,” he stated.

According to him, Ghana’s recovery has reached a stage where government can now shift focus from stabilisation to growth.
“We’ve paid the price for stabilisation. It wasn’t only paid by government. You did. Everyone else played a role. Now we’ve got into a stage that we can build on,” he explained.
Dr Forson said the 2027 Budget will outline the framework for the “New Economy,” guiding the country’s post‑recovery phase.

He emphasised that government had anticipated two years of tough decisions to turn the economy around, a target he believes has been achieved.
Despite expressing confidence in the progress made, the Finance Minister cautioned against premature celebration, stressing the need to consolidate gains before declaring full recovery.
