The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has dismissed as false and misleading a viral social media publication alleging that Dominic Bonsu Ventures owned by Dominic Bonsu absconded with GH¢200 million belonging to the Board.

In a statement issued on Monday, August 3, 2026, GoldBod described the widely circulated news as “entirely false, malicious and deliberately intended to mislead the public”.

The board also rejected claims that Dominic Bonsu was a former bodyguard or personal security officer to the GoldBod Chief Executive Officer, Sammy Gyamfi, stressing no such relationship has ever existed.

GoldBod further denied allegations that it had lost or advanced GH¢200 million or any amount of money to Bonsu or Dominic Bonsu Ventures.

According to the statement, the licence of Dominic Bonsu Ventures was suspended over suspected breaches of its licence terms and conditions, as well as violations of the GoldBod trading directives, in line with the provisions of the Ghana Gold Board Act, 2025 (Act 1140).

The board explained that following investigations and enforcement action, Bonsu was arrested and remanded into lawful custody by the High Court in Accra where he remains subject to ongoing legal proceedings.

GoldBod expressed concern over what it described as a deliberate attempt to distort an ongoing enforcement process, misinform the public and undermine confidence in its operations.

It urged the public to disregard the claims circulating on social media and rely only on information released through its official communication channels.

The board also appealed to media organisations, bloggers and social media users to verify information before publication and uphold the highest standards of responsible journalism.

GoldBod reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing the laws governing Ghana’s gold trading sector fairly, professionally and without fear or favour.
