The Volta Regional Representative on the Council of State, Dr Gabriel Tanko Kwamigah-Atokple, has engaged with American multibillionaire, John P Rochon, to explore investment opportunities in the Volta Region.

Dr Rochon, over 40 years experience spanning finance, business strategy, investment, marketing and political strategy, is the founder of Richmont, a private investment and business holding company, and the Rochon Family Office, a multi-billion-dollar single-family office based in the USA.

He was the former Board Chairman of global cosmetics brand, Mary Kay, which serves about six million women customers worldwide.

The meeting, featured officials such as the CEO of Catalyst Green LLC, focused on investment opportunities in the Volta Region, with particular interest in lithium exploration and the broader potential of the region’s natural resources.

However, Dr Kwamigah-Atokple further said the engagement is in line with his promise to go beyond the traditional advisory role of the Council of State.

“One of the promises I made in my bid to serve as a Member of the Council of State was that my role would not just be limited to the traditional advisory role,” he said.

“I also believe that public service must create opportunities for economic transformation,” he added.

He further stated that “That means actively seeking out credible investors, pitching business ideas that can create jobs, develop local capacity and, most importantly, add value to the raw materials found in our region rather than exporting them in their raw form.”

He also stressed that the Volta Region possesses enormous economic potential and that his responsibility is to help translate that potential into sustainable investment, productive industries and opportunities for the people.

Dr Kwamigah-Atokple further noted that Dr Rochon’s philanthropic record is noteworthy, following his financial support to Malawi for hospital projects despite never having been to Africa.
