Foreign direct investment projects registered in Ghana in 2025 are expected to create 18,748 jobs once the projects become fully operational, according to the Ghana Investment Promotion Authority (GIPC).

The projected employment is tied to 254 new investment projects registered during the year, with Ghanaians expected to secure the majority of the jobs.

According to the GIPC’s 2025 Annual Investment Report, Ghanaians are projected to take up 90.3% of the jobs, while non-Ghanaians will account for the remaining 9.7%.

The employment projections come as Ghana recorded $2.62 billion in foreign direct investment inflows in 2025, reflecting continued interest from international investors.

The investments covered 245 new projects and existing companies, with new investment projects accounting for the bulk of the inflows. Significant capital injections were recorded in the petroleum and free zones sectors.

China emerged as the leading source of registered projects, accounting for 70 projects, followed by India with 22, Nigeria with 10, the United Arab Emirates with 9 and the United Kingdom with 8.

However, when measured by investment value, the Cayman Islands led with $500 million, followed by China with $486 million.

The Greater Accra Region remained the main destination for foreign investment, recording 143 projects.

Ashanti followed with 18 projects valued at $15.99 million, while the Western and Eastern regions recorded 9 and 3 projects respectively.

The report further shows that 70.72% of the registered projects were wholly foreign-owned, while 29.28% were joint ventures.

With foreign investment expected to remain on a continued growth, the GIPC is projecting FDI inflows of $2.8 billion in 2026, rising further to $3.1 billion in 2027.

The projections suggest that Ghana’s ability to attract and convert foreign investment into operational businesses could become an important source of job creation, particularly for Ghanaian workers.
