Chinese automaker Chery has identified Ghana as a strategic market and partner as local firm Zonda Tec Ghana expands vehicle assembly operations with the commissioning of its ultra-modern plant.
The facility, which will assemble Chery vehicles under a Completely Knocked Down (CKD) arrangement, marks Chery’s first CKD assembly plant in Africa, according to a representative of the company.
Speaking at the commissioning, the Chery representative said the partnership with Zonda Tec represents an important step in the company’s efforts to expand its vehicle assembly footprint across the continent.
He said the pace at which the project was completed was particularly impressive, noting that the facility was established in less than a year.

“In less than one year, we are already standing here in front of this factory. The speed and efficiency of this project implementation are truly impressive,” he said.
The representative said Ghana’s growing automotive market and its potential to serve as a base for broader African operations make the country an important part of Chery’s long-term plans.
“Ghana is not only a promising market for Chery but also a strategic partner in our long-term development plans,” he said.
He said the partnership with Zonda Tec would allow Chery to deepen its presence in Ghana while supporting the development of local capacity in vehicle assembly and related areas.
The establishment of the plant also strengthens the connection between an international vehicle manufacturer and a local automotive company, potentially creating opportunities for Ghanaian businesses within the wider automotive value chain.
The representative highlighted three key milestones for Chery, including its position as China’s number one passenger vehicle exporter.
According to him, the automaker has maintained that position for 23 consecutive years.
He also described the Zonda Tec facility as a significant milestone because it represents Chery’s first CKD assembly plant in Africa.
He further disclosed that Chery ranked number one in the UK market in August.
The commissioning of the plant comes as Ghana continues to seek greater investment in local vehicle assembly and the development of an automotive manufacturing ecosystem.
The facility is expected to support local assembly activities while creating opportunities for businesses involved in areas such as components, logistics, servicing and other automotive-related services.
The partnership could also contribute to skills development as local workers and businesses gain experience in vehicle assembly and related technical operations.
