The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has resumed significant gold shipments, helping the Bank of Ghana (BoG) build the country’s foreign exchange reserves.

Speaking at the 132nd Monetary Policy Committee press briefing on Thursday, September 24, 2026, Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr Johnson Pandit Asiama, said gold shipments had become less regular in August after stronger activity in the previous two quarters.

However, he noted that the latest figures show that the situation has improved, with GoldBod exporting a significant amount of gold in the past week.

“The shipments have resumed. In fact, in the last week, Gold Board exported quite a significant amount of gold and this is supporting the reserves build-up,” he said.

The latest update came after the MPC meeting, which reportedly gave the Committee a more positive picture of GoldBod’s export activity than the information available at the beginning of the meeting.

Dr Asiama also revealed that the renewed shipments currently do not pose a major risk to Ghana’s reserve accumulation but warned that international gold prices remain an important risk to the value of the country’s gold exports.

“What poses a risk is the international gold price out there, and you know that one is not within our control,” he said.

He explained that global developments, including changes in US monetary policy, could affect gold prices and, in turn, the value of Ghana’s gold exports and the pace of reserve accumulation.
