Aayalolo buses will begin operating contra-flow services on four major corridors into Accra’s Central Business District (CBD) from Tuesday, September 29, 2026.

Acting Managing Director of the Greater Accra Passenger Transport Executive (GAPTE), Awudu Dawuda, said the service would operate on the Amasaman, Pokuase, Kasoa and Adentan corridors during peak hours to help ease traffic congestion and improve the movement of public buses into the city.

Speaking at a press conference on Monday, September 28, 2026, Dawuda said the initiative followed a joint traffic simulation exercise involving the Ghana Police Service’s Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD), the Department of Urban Roads, the Ministry of Transport and other stakeholders.

He said the Amasaman corridor would have pick-up points at Amasaman, Kwame Nkrumah Circle and Achimota, while the Pokuase corridor would have pick-up points at Pokuase, Kwame Nkrumah Circle and Achimota.

On the Kasoa corridor, designated pick-up points are Kasoa Main Station, Tuba Junction, Old Barrier, Barrier and Kaneshie First Line.

The Adentan corridor, meanwhile, will have pick-up points at Adentan Barrier, Madina Junction, Legon and 37 Hospital.

Dawuda said the contra-flow lanes would be clearly marked with traffic cones and reflective lane dividers and would be manned by Captain Ralph Wallens and Police MTTD officers at major intersections.

“The service will commence on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, following a joint traffic simulation exercise with the Ghana Police Service MTTD, the Department of Urban Roads, the Ministry of Transport and other stakeholders,” he said.

He stressed that only Aayalolo buses would be allowed to use the designated contra-flow lanes during operational hours.

“No private car, taxi, trotro, okada or truck will be allowed to use the contra-flow lane during operational hours,” he stated.

The arrangement is expected to provide dedicated movement for Aayalolo buses on the selected corridors during peak periods and improve access to Accra’s CBD.
