The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana National Gas Company, Judith Adjobah Blay, has announced plans to establish a Greenhouse Vegetable Initiative in the Ellembelle District of the Western Region to create jobs and provide sustainable livelihoods for the youth.

The initiative, which will be sited on one acre of land already secured, will involve the construction of a modern greenhouse facility and the formation of a cooperative of young men and women to operate it as a business.

Speaking at Sanzule on Friday, October 16, 2026, during the launch of the Eco-Brigade beach-cleaning programme, Adjobah Blay said Ghana Gas would provide the facility, logistics and funding to train beneficiaries as mechanised farmers and entrepreneurs.

“We are about to launch another big programme, a greenhouse vegetable. It’s very exciting for me because it’s going to provide livelihoods. We’re going to provide entrepreneurs,” she said.

“On one acre of land, we are going to build the facility and also form a cooperative, give logistics and funding to a group of young men and women who will become farmers, mechanised farmers, and businessmen and women.”

Adjobah Blay added that Ghana Gas would closely monitor the project to ensure that its benefits reached the beneficiaries and their communities.

She called on residents to support the company in sustaining its operations and delivering more development projects and livelihood interventions in Ellembelle.

She also disclosed that Ghana Gas had outlined several projects for communities within its operational catchment area and urged residents to support the company and its board to ensure their successful implementation.

The Greenhouse Vegetable Initiative forms part of a broader range of livelihood programmes being undertaken by Ghana Gas in Ellembelle.

These include the 250-member Eco-Brigade, which is responsible for cleaning beaches from Atuabo to Ankobra, and the GACOL soap-making programme for women. The company also plans to construct a factory for the soap-making initiative and guarantee a market for the products.

Some residents who spoke to this reporter expressed gratitude to the CEO for the initiatives and called on the company to expedite the implementation of the projects planned for their communities.
