Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has held consultations with the leadership of PSGH
New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential candidate Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has held consultations with the leadership of the Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana (PSGH) as part of his ongoing stakeholder engagements aimed at gathering expert perspectives on Ghana’s development priorities.
Dr Bawumia visited the PSGH House in Accra yesterday, where he met with the society’s leadership to discuss strategies for strengthening Ghana’s pharmaceutical industry and positioning the country as West Africa’s leading pharmaceutical production hub.
The meeting provided an opportunity for the NPP flagbearer to hear directly from pharmaceutical professionals on the challenges facing the sector and the measures needed to expand domestic production, improve regulatory efficiency and strengthen support for pharmacists.
Key issues discussed included boosting local pharmaceutical manufacturing, streamlining regulatory processes, creating a more supportive environment for pharmacists and promoting stronger public-private partnerships to drive investment and innovation in the industry.
The engagement also focused on the potential for Ghana to increase its capacity to manufacture medicines locally, reduce dependence on imported pharmaceutical products and improve access to essential medicines.
A stronger domestic pharmaceutical industry could create jobs, attract investment and enhance Ghana’s capacity to respond to public health needs while opening up opportunities for pharmaceutical exports to other West African countries.
Dr Bawumia’s meeting with the Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana forms part of his broader consultations with professional bodies and other stakeholders to gather input on policies and interventions that could support national development.
The outcome of the engagement could inform discussions on the future direction of Ghana’s pharmaceutical sector, particularly in areas involving local manufacturing, regulatory reforms, professional development and private-sector investment.
