A team from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has visited the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) to assess the progress made in restoring operations and addressing the refinery's financial and operational challenges.

The visit formed part of the IMF team's engagements with government institutions and selected state-owned enterprises in Ghana to better understand their operations and ongoing reforms.

In a post sighted on X, TOR disclosed that its Managing Director, Edmond Kombat, briefed the delegation on the challenges the current management inherited and the steps taken since May 2025 to bring the refinery back into operation.

According to Kombat, management has introduced measures to restore confidence in the refinery, including the rehabilitation and restart of its Crude Distillation Unit (CDU), which processes crude oil into petroleum products.

He explained that the refinery has also taken steps to improve financial reporting, strengthen financial controls and introduce staff-related reforms to improve its operations.

The Managing Director further highlighted efforts to secure a steady supply of crude oil to keep the refinery running and prevent interruptions in production.

The IMF delegation was also briefed on ongoing plans to increase the refinery's processing capacity and restore other important facilities that are needed to improve production.
