The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has begun consultations with stakeholders on its proposed Artisanal and Small-Scale Mining (ASM) Formalisation and Financing Support Programme (FFSP), which is scheduled for implementation in 2027.

The consultations, led by GoldBod Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Richard Nunekpeku, brought together representatives of the Ghana National Association of Small-Scale Miners (GNASSM), Concerned Small-Scale Miners, Hard Rock and Underground Miners, the Ghana National Association of Gold Traders and the Chamber of Gold Buyers.

The proposed programme seeks to formalise artisanal and small-scale mining operations and provide financing support through a structured framework.

Speaking at the engagement, Nunekpeku stressed the importance of gathering input from industry stakeholders to shape the programme before it is submitted for Cabinet and parliamentary consideration.

GoldBod’s Director of Responsible Mining, Professor Ishmael Quaicoe, also outlined the proposed policy framework and its key components.

The consultations are expected to continue with other relevant institutions, including the Minerals Commission, the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, the Minerals Income Investment Fund (MIIF), the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) and the Water Resources Commission.

The engagements form part of efforts to gather input from key stakeholders ahead of the programme’s proposed implementation in 2027.
