The Gomoa West District Assembly would not advance money for administration to any Town or Area Councils which do not collect revenue ceded to them.
Mr. Theophilus Aidoo-Mensah, District Chief Executive (DCE) said this at the second ordinary meeting of the Second Session of the Sixth Assembly held at Apam.
He expressed concern about the refusal of some Town and Area Councils to collect the ceded revenue and said their behaviour had affected their internally generated fund (IGF).
Mr. Aidoo-Mensah cautioned that if the Councils did not support the Assembly in revenue generation, the Assembly would not be able to pass the Functional Organisation Assessment Tool (FOAT) to enable it to qualify for the District Development Facility (DDF).
The DCE appealed to the Assembly to consider privatisation of the Assembly’s revenue if it wanted to make a head way in its attempt to improve the living conditions of the people.
Mr. Charles Nyarko, a member of the Assembly appealed to contract awarding agencies to serve assembly members with copies of contracts awarded in their electoral areas to involve them in the supervision of the projects to enable the beneficiaries to get value for money on the contracts.
Mr. Nyarko, who is a lecturer at the Central University College, said because assembly members were not informed of projects awarded outside the assembly, contractors did not listen to them when they complained about the quality of work being done.
That, he said, contributed to shoddy work which was becoming rampant in the communities.
Obrifo Ahunako Ahor Ankobea II, Omanhen of Gomoa Akyempim, advised assembly members to set good examples not only at the assembly but also in their communities and anywhere else they found themselves.
He said the title; “Honourable” conferred on them was of a great value which they must respect at all times.
Mr. Anthony Eyiah-Quansah, the Presiding Member cautioned members against indulging in partisan politics.
He advised them to refrain from encouraging litigation,, especially chieftaincy and land disputes.
Mr. Daniel Osei-Asibey, District Coordinating Director, appealed to members to be punctual at meetings and work as a team to develop the district.
Earlier, a minute silence was observed in honour of the late President John Evans Atta Mills.
