A new airline, Africa World Airline, is expected to begin operations in Ghana from September 21, 2012. It becomes the fifth domestic airline in the country after Antrak, Citilink, 540 and Starbow.

A statement issued by the airline recently in Accra said its first aircraft will arrive in Ghana on Friday to adequately prepare for full business next month.

Togbe Afede XIV, Agbogbomefia of Asogli State and founder of the Africa World Airline, says the airline will shuttle between Accra, Kumasi, Takoradi and Tamale on its first flight.

Togbe Afede XIV is also founder of the Strategic African Securities (SAS) Group of companies.

He has over 18 years of experience in investment banking and co-founded Databank Financial Services Limited in 1990.

Togbe has also played a critical role in the development of Ghana’s capital markets including developing and publishing the first-ever stock market indices in 1991. SAS was incorporated in Ghana in 1994.

The arrival of Africa Travel Airline is projected to spur competition among players in the industry and most probably reduce air fares.

According to Togbe Afede XIV, his outfit chose September 21, 2012 for its inaugural flight in order to commemorate the 103rd anniversary of the birth of Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana’s first President.
