Dr Edward Omane Boamah, Minister of Communications, says the development of new ideas could enrich improvement in Information Communication Technology (ICT) infrastructure in Africa.
He has therefore urged players in the ICT sector to help drive national progress and economic growth on the continent.
Dr Boamah made the call at the closing ceremony of the four-day International Telecommunications Union (ITU) conference on Friday. He said five initiatives have been developed to help achieve the objective of making people at the centre of ICT development and empowerment.
The Minister urged member states to work assiduously to attain the five pillars initiated to propel the development of telecommunication system for the improvement of quality of life of the people.
Mr Paroock Van Percy Director-General of the National Communication Authority and Chairman of the regional preparatory meeting lauded Ghana for hosting the ITU conference.
He said Ghana has played a significant role in the development of ICT, which earned her the unique opportunity to host about 306 participants of the conference.
Among the 52 African countries Ghana was chosen as the final destination to host this year’s ITU conference which gives credence to its performance in ICT in the last 10 years, he said.
Mr Percy observed that the conference gave an insight of every region’s position in ICT infrastructure development in the urban and rural communities in Africa.
