Plans to merge the Ghana National Procurement Agency with the Ghana Supply Company Limited (GSCL) are on course.

This was disclosed by Dr. Joseph Marboa-Rockson, Acting Managing Director of GSCL, a limited public liability company engaged in shipping, forwarding and clearing.

Dr. Joseph Marboa-Rockson, who was speaking at the official outdooring of a new Friday wear for staff of GSCL, said the proposal for the intended merger was made by the Minister of Trade and Industry (MOTI), Dr. Ekwow Spio-Garbrah.

The Friday wear, which seeks to motivate staff of GSCL to work hard for the growth of the company, was designed by the Akosombo Textiles Limited (ATL).

The merger has become necessary due to the failure of the Ghana Public Procurement Authority to live up to its expectations. It will be solely responsible for procuring goods, services and contracts for the government, he claimed.

Dr. Marboa-Rockson said the agency would also examine prices locally and internationally on behalf of government “to make sure that whatever government buys out of the consolidated fund has value for Ghana.”

According to Dr. Marboa-Rockson, the merger, which would take place in the near future, is intended to help reduce corruption and bribery in government agencies, departments and ministries in the procurement process.

He also noted that the envisioned Ghana Procurement Services Agency would save the country a lot of money, as well help create additional employment opportunities.

Giving the operational update of Ghana Supply Company Limited, formerly known as Ghana Supply Commission, Dr. Marboa-Rockson indicated that management of his outfit has been working tirelessly from June 2014 to redeem the image of GSCL, which is struggling financially.

He intimated that GSCL has initiated several projects, including the Tema freezone enclave articulated truck parking lot project and total logistic and helipad project at Tarkoradi.

He said the company had established links with several international firms both in Africa and overseas to revitalize its services in the nation.
