Workers of the PSC Tema Shipyard Limited have petitioned President John Dramani Mahama to, as a matter of urgency, sack their Chief Executive Officer (CEO), H.R.T Ali Tunde for his incompetence.

The workers, in a petition submitted to the President through the Ministry of Transport, said Mr. Ali Tunde had retarded the progress of the company since he assumed office and had allegedly used the company’s finances to pursue his personal interests.

According to them, after several years of recording losses under the previous Malaysian managers, the PSC Tema Shipyard made some profit recently until the appointment of Mr. Ali Tunde.

The Senior Staff Association (SSA), which filed the petition, further called on the President to immediately dissolve the current board of company.

Graveyard

According to the workers, though the company has since been dormant since 2013, the CEO has purchased a brand new Toyota Land Cruiser V8 at a cost of $106,000 with the connivance of the Head of Finance whom they alleged was not qualified to authorise the payment of such an amount.

They said Mr. Ali Tunde has also put up a new CEO’s office, and abandoned his assigned office.

“As we pen this letter, the CEO, in collaboration with the Board Chairman, has deployed naval personnel to the yard. As to their mission in the yard, no one is ready to offer any tangible explanation,” the concerned workers pointed out.

The petition, signed by the senior staff association chairman, Samuel Ayensu, Secretary to the Senior Staff Association, Michael Frimpong, Chairman of the Local Union of MDU, Samuel Attram and Secretary to the Local Union of MDU, Stephen Tetteh Quaye on behalf of the concerned staff said “today, the shipyard is cash-trapped, only surviving on deposits from clients. The shipyard has no money of its own.”

Hand over to GPHA

According to them, the Tema Shipyard should be handed over to the Ghana Port and Harbour Authority (GHAPHA) to manage before it collapses.

“We are therefore begging and pleading with you, Your Excellency President Mahama, to take urgent steps and immediately remove Mr. H.R.T. Ali as the CEO and the Shipyard handed over to Ghana Ports and Harbour Authority (GPHA) to interim manage the place in order to save the shipyard from collapse,” they added.

Agitation

This is the third time the workers of the PSC Tema Shipyard have petitioned the President to remove the CEO according to letters dated September 4, 2016, April 28, 2016 and May 3, 2016.

Mr. HRT Ali, BUSINESS GUIDE gathered, allegedly tendered in his resignation letter to the Ministry of Transport sometime back.

His resignation letter was however rejected by the Board Chairman and he was asked to resume work.
