Takoradi, Oct. 25, GNA- Workers of the Takoradi Western Veneer and Lumber Company Limited (WVLC) through its branch Union of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) on Friday called on the government to divest the company.

They said ever since the company was placed on the divestiture list in 1994, its problems had increased and continue to increase daily. Mr. Joseph Kunyani, secretary of the branch Union of the Timber and Woodworkers Union, said this at a press conference at Takoradi. He said though they had sent several petitions to the Ministry of Lands and Forestry since 1997, nothing has come out of it.

Mr. Kunyani said between April 2000 and July 2001 had seen "worse period" of the company.

He therefore called on the government to intervene since the present administration was finding it difficult to manage the company.
