Women’s International Shipping and Trading Association, WISTA Ghana, an association for professional women in management position involved in maritime transport and related trades says it will embark on a campaign to get more women in the maritime industry.
The newly appointed President of the association, Jamila Mahama speaking in an interview with Eye on Port, shortly after her appointment said more women will be supported to enroll in the maritime university.
She said there are several benefits that abound in the maritime industry, hence, the need for the youth to be encouraged to join the maritime industry so as to address the unemployment issue.
“We would again try to encourage or go out to encourage the youth to join the maritime industry. Basically, it’s quite a big place to be in, very challenging but it comes with a lot of rewards and it’s an honour to be in the maritime industry,” she said.
The newly appointed Vice President of the Association, pledged the association’s commitment and support to the Minister-designate for the Transport industry, Kwaku Ofori Asiamah in ensuring that the maritime industry develops.
