A co-founder of investment bank Databank, Keli Gadzekpo, and brother of popular lawyer Philip Addison, Dr. Ernest Addison, are in contention for the now vacant position of the governor of the Central Bank.
According to StarrFMonline.com sources, there is a seeming split of support at the presidency for both individuals for the top job.
It is unclear who the finance minister Ken Ofori Atta favors for the position, even though he co-founded the successful Databank with Mr. Gadzekpo. Gadzekpo is currently head of the Enterprise Group.
Dr. Addison, on the other hand, was a former Head of Research at the Bank of Ghana but currently works with the African Development Bank (AfDB).
StarrFMonline.com sources however say Dr. Addison is favorite for the job. The Governor of the Bank of Ghana Dr Abdul-Nashiru Issahaku resigned from the bank Wednesday.
He has told the Daily Graphic that he was not pushed out of office by the government.
Dr. Issahaku, who was appointed on April 04, 2016 by former President John Mahama, has been at post for 11 months.
The 55-year-old, until his appointment, was a Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana. He replaced Dr. Kofi Wampah.
He worked with the World Bank as a Senior Public Sector Specialist; the African Development Bank (ADB) as a Principal Governance Expert and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa as a Development Management Officer.
Also, Dr. Issahaku was a Socio-Economic Advisor and Project Coordinator for the Canadian International Development Agency as well as working as a Senior Planning Analyst with Ghana National Development Planning Commission. Dr. Issahaku is married and has four children.
