The President of Groupe Ideal and member of the National Council of State, Dr Nii Kotei Dzani, has presented 35 computers and accessories to the Department of Economics at the University of Cape Coast, his alma mater.
The 30 desktop computers and five laptops, together with their accessories, cost GH?91,000.
Presenting the items, Dr Dzani said the donation was in fulfillment of a pledge made to the department.
He added that education is surest way Ghana can develop and it was time for the country to invest in education to churn out people who can appreciate the value of knowledge.
He said his company will collaborate with the Department of Economics of the University to develop it into a School of Economics by supporting them with logistics and resources.
Dr Dzani said it is his believe that when the transformation succeeds, the School of Economics will be an influence to the economic growth of the country.
He said the economic foundation of the country is weak and, therefore, urged them to work hard to become a reference point in economic studies in and outside the country.
The Vice-Chancellor of the UCC, Prof Joseph Ghartey Ampiah, expressed the university's appreciation to Groupe Ideal and thanked Mr Dzanie, in particular, for his continuous support for the school.
He said the donation came at the right time because the items were one of the dire needs of the Department.
He said he shared in the dream of the President to see the Department of Economics transform into a school because they have grown from a small department to a big one.
He added that he will ensure that the school does their part in making the collaboration between them and Group Ideal a reality and to see the transformation of the department.
He said a paper has already been presented to the Academic Board of the University for consideration of the transformation so he hopes that will be done soon.
Dr Nii Kotei Dzani also used the opportunity to interact with students of the economics department.
