Telecom Malaysia Files Injunction Against Ghana Telecom - Rejoinder

Thu, 4 Mar 2004 Source: GHANA TELECOM

On the ghanaweb.com/Ghana Homepage news segment of March 04, 2004 appeared a news item under the title ?Telecom Malaysia files injunction against GT?.
In this news item, it was stated inter alia that Mr. Oduro-Nyaning, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Ghana Telecom (GT), has confirmed ?a submission made on the floor of Parliament by Mr. Stephen K. Balado Manu, NPP ? Ahafo Ano South to the effect that there was an injunction preventing GT?s expansion programme from taking off?. This is certainly a gross misrepresentation. This rejoinder therefore seeks to set the records straight for the benefit of readers and particularly stakeholders in GT.
As was rightly stated in the first paragraph of the news story in question, Telekom Malaysia has FILED AN INJUNCTION restraining Ghana Telecom from accessing a USD 150 million Alcatel Shanghai Bell facility as well as a USD 60 million local syndicated loan needed to undertake an expansion programme which would transform the telecom landscape in Ghana.
The matter is in court and March 23, 2004 has been billed for hearing.
