Sunyani (B/A), April 1, GNA- The Valco Trust Fund on Wednesday donated 280.8 million cedis educational items to 11 institutions in the Brong-Ahafo Region at a brief ceremony in Sunyani. The offer formed part of the Fund's 2003 Year programme. The items included technical, science, home science equipment and computers.
The beneficiaries included Dormaa Vocational Training Centre, Badu Secondary/Technical School, and Koase Secondary/Technical, both in the Wenchi district. Beyeeman Bosea Gyinantwi, Omanhene of Drobo Traditional Area who is also a representative of the Brong-Ahafo Region on the Board of VALCO Management Trustees, presented the items and said the Fund set up 23 years ago was for two main purposes.
He said the Fund caters for advancement of education and science for the benefit of the people of Ghana in addition to carrying out social and development projects. Beyeeman Gyinantwi said the Trustees would continue to supplement government's efforts to meet some of the basic needs of Ghanaian communities by offering assistance where the need arose.
The Omanhene said other regions were also benefiting from the Fund adding that, "This is not the first and last of its assistance to Brong-Ahafo. He said: "The Valco Trust Fund expects nothing short of a good maintenance programme for the items presented to the institutions". He later presented the items to Mrs. Akua Akubuor Debrah, Brong-Ahafo Regional Director of the Ghana Education Service (GES) and wife of the Northern Regional Minister, Mr. Ernest Akubuor Debrah.
Mr. Charles Adu-Kusi, Headmaster of Drobo Secondary School on behalf of beneficiaries thanked the organizers of the Trust Fund for the immense contributions to support government's educational programmes in the country. Mr. Adu-Kusi promised that the items would motivate beneficiary schools to perform better academically.
Nana Kwadwo Seinti, Brong Ahafo Regional Minister cautioned heads of the institutions to put the items into good use. He added that he would personally organize an exercise to monitor the items and appealed to the management of the Trust Fund to arrange so that more schools and institutions in the region would benefit.
