Kumbungu District in the Northern Region has been selected among the first 101 districts to benefit from government's flagship One-District, One-Factory (1D1F) programme.

The Trade and Industry Minister while answering questions on the floor of Parliament concerning the implementation plan for the one-district, one-factory initiative on Thursday disclosed that his outfit has “received 473 business proposals including business plans and expression of interest”.

Alan Kyerematen, however, explained that out of the 473 proposals, 462 have been analysed by the ministry out of which 191 covering 102 districts including the Kumbungu District have been selected for the implementation of the 1D1F project.

He said two investors have brought in their proposals to establish two different factories- an Organic Fertilizer factory and Sugar Plantation and Processing Company- for people of Kumbungu District.

These factories according to Mr. Kyerematen will create job opportunities, open up the district for other investment opportunities and raise the standard of living of residents and Ghana at large.

"Apart from the job opportunities these two important enterprises will create, they'll further open up the Kumbungu District for other complementary economic activities and investments which will lead to significant wealth creation for the people of Kumbungu and the surrounding districts," he said.

To ensure a successful implementation of the policy, Mr. Kyerematen said the Trade Ministry is forming a “District Implementation Support Team” in each district to monitor and coordinate projects in the districts.
