The Volta River Authority (VRA) has allayed fears of electricity cuts in the country following the shutdown of the Jubilee FPSO Thursday for routine maintenance.

The three-week shutdown of the FPSO is the first of three planned shutdowns in 2018 to allow engineers carry out general maintenance arising out of recent challenges faced by the vessel.

According to the Authority, enough contingency plans have been put in place to avert supply deficit that would have occurred at the western power enclave during the period.

“We will operate up to two turbines on the Light Crude Oil in combined cycle mode to generate up to 300mw from Aboadze to support the system,” VRA said in a statement Thursday.

Again it said the VRA will be receiving on demand, up to 200mw power from Cote d’Ivoire to complement the generation.

“All other VRA facilities, hydro, thermal, and solar are available at optimum capacity.
