Employers directed to increase minimum wage to GHC10.65

The Ministry for Employment and Labour Relations, has directed all employers to adjust employees’ wages upwards by 10 per cent effective January 2019.

It follows a decision reached Thursdays July 26, after a National Tripartite Committee (NTC) meeting.

The committee which comprises government, employers and leadership of Organized Labour, has been in deliberation for the past four months before arriving at a decision which will see the National Daily Minimum Wage inch up from GHC9.68 to GHC10.65

Announcing the new national minimum wage, the sector minister, Ignatius Baffour Awuah, charged employers to comply with the directive.

“The committee directs that all establishments, institutions or organisations should adjust their wages upwards with effect from January 1, 2019”, he directed.

He warned that any establishment that flaunts the directive “shall be sanctioned in accordance with the law”.

The directive added that that the new National Daily Minimum Wage should be tax exempt, reiterating the need to improve of incomes and productivity in the public and private sectors of the Ghanaian economy.
