Ghana Gas’ Dr. Ben Asante is hopeful with Aker Energy’s production set to birth oil by 2020 or 2021, there’s a possibility of boosting Ghana’s Liquefied Petroleum Gas Production (LPG) from its 40% current production levels to about 80%.
Ghana currently produces 250 to 300 tonnes of LPG products daily but the Managing Director of Ghana Gas Company believes should the company be getting double flows, it should be hitting maximum production levels.
He noted with Aker’s oil production, it could get wet gas and glean LPG from it to bolster holdings.
Aker’s Chief Executive Oeyvind Eriksen has submitted that depending on the approval process in Ghana; first oil is achievable in late 2020 or early 2021.
A recent appraisal by the Norwegian oil company had confirmed contingent resources of 450 million-550 million barrels of oil equivalent (mmboe) at the field.
Aker controls 30 percent owned by BP, which has announced plans to triple its oil production by 2025 from 155,700 boepd in 2018.
Aker Energy operates and holds a 50 percent stake in the DWT/CTP block off Ghana, which contains several discoveries.
