Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia is in a historic event, addressing Ghanaians on the current state of the economy together with key members on the Economic Management Team (EMT).
Themed, ‘Our Progress, Our Status, Our Future,’ the maiden event will see the team tackle major issues of concerns that have been raised by sections of the public in recent times.
Prominent among them is the cedi’s recent depreciation challenge and government’s announcement of reduction of import duties, the exchange rate, matters on energy, the broader economy, and government’s flagship projects.
Ghanaian businesses have raised concerns about the health of the local currency which has depreciated against the dollar from GHC4.9 to over GHC5.5 since the turn of the year.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, also in recent times has indicated that reforms to Ghana’s import duty regime, which will bring down the high duties prevailing in Ghana’s ports, are in the offing, and will be rolled out soon.
The recent power cuts that some experts have blamed on a financially-challenged sector will also feature prominently.
The meeting will be a question-and-answer session that elicits the concerns of Ghanaians on key economic issues.
