Ghana has successfully had its maiden participation in the Global Petroleum Show (GPS) – North America’s leading energy event which ended yesterday in Calgary, Canada.
The event brought together leaders from the global oil and gas value chain, the financial community as well as public policymakers to address the most critical issues affecting the industry, thus providing a platform for players in the sector to develop strategies for oil and gas, renewables, and to introduce new energy sources not yet patronized.
Such engagements are seen by industry players as encouraging in the sense that in a capital-intensive industry such as oil and gas, access to finance and human capacity to pull the resources is crucial to its development.
The Deputy CEO of the Petroleum Commission, Mr. Prince Benjamin Aboagye told the Goldstreet Business last Tuesday that Ghana’s participation in the global event forms part of a concerted effort and policy direction of government to pitch to prospective investors across the globe about opportunities that exist in the country’s upstream sector.
“It is our anticipation that whatever ensues between Ghana and Canada during the event, the expectation is to have a windfall back into our country”, he noted.
A government delegation was led by Mr. Egbert Faibille Jnr, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Petroleum Commission, together with representatives from the Ministry of Energy and key stakeholders in the upstream sector who represented Ghana at the three day event.
The business-to-business event afforded an opportunity for the team to make a case for Ghana as the preferred destination for investment in the oil and gas sector. This was in partnership with the Canada/Ghana Chamber of Commerce
Global Petroleum Show
The global event brought together more than 50,000 international and domestic oil and gas executives from over 21,000 upstream companies. Officials from government, national and international energy companies across the entire supply chain convened in Calgary to share innovative technologies, conduct business to business and business to government engagements in “complex and controversial discussions aimed at shaping the future of energy industry” as described by the event’s organizers.
The GPS is the premier international meeting place for the industry to introduce new technologies, share ideas, meet new prospects, and do business together.
