Some youth being trained under the YIEDIE project of the Global Communities in Takoradi have been supported with funds and tools to enable them to start their own businesses.

The five-year project, currently in its fourth year, is being sponsored by MasterCard Foundation together with other partners and it is aimed at giving thousands of youth within Takoradi, Kumasi, Accra and other parts of the country employable skills to make them independent in life.

Mr Mamud Sallam, the Regional Coordinator of Global Communities at one of such disbursement gathering, said the youth must be assisted to create jobs for themselves and others which would contribute to solving unemployment and help build a better tomorrow.

The disbursement ceremony saw 68 beneficiaries, some being assisted with 6000 Ghana cedis while others got sets of working tools to invest in their set-ups.

The YIEDIE project offered youth between 17-24 years an opportunity to learn a trade useful in the built environment including upholstery, masonry, carpentry, steel bending, P.O.P ceiling, interior and exterior decor among others.

Mrs Alice Winnimi Tuoho, Development Specialist, said developing human capacities is crucial to economic growth and the general well-being of society and lauded the Global Communities for initiating the project to alleviate poverty among the citizenry.

Working tools such as industrial sewing machines, fabrics, flowers, welding machines, grinding machines, hammer drilling machines, ladders, spraying machines, laptops, roller sticks, brushes among others were presented to the beneficiaries.
