Olam Ghana Limited, a major supply chain manager of agri-products and food ingredients, has donated an amount of GH¢150,000.00 to the Ministry of Food and Agriculture towards the 35th National Farmers’ Day celebration.
The 35th Edition of the celebration is themed around: “Enhancing Small Scale Agriculture towards Agribusiness Development” and will be hosted in the Volta Region.
Making the donation at the premises of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture in Accra, Mr. Amit Agrawal, Country Head of Olam Ghana said, “The National Farmers Day is a very important celebration to honour our farmers and their communities. Farmers must be proud of their invaluable contribution to society, which not only makes a positive difference on our lives on a daily basis, but is also an inevitable part of the solution to feeding the demands of the world’s growing population sustainably”.
“That’s why Olam has been working with and learning from farmers for many years, to increase incomes and opportunities. There are still significant challenges that we need to overcome, but we will continue to work together and invest in the future of farming for our country, in order to unlock its true potential for the benefit of all,” said Mr. Agrawal who was accompanied by Eric Botwe, Business Head of Olam Cocoa and Kenneth Antwi, the National Head of HR.
On 6th December, National Farmers Day will recognise and celebrate the valuable contribution of farmers to Ghana’s communities and national development.
With a buying network of 282,000 cocoa and 25,000 cashew smallholders and 25 years’ experience working to support them, Olam is acutely aware of the importance of Ghana’s farmers to the success of the business.
In Ghana, around 280,000 cocoa and 25,000 cashew smallholder farmers are embraced under the Olam Livelihood Charter (OLC), Olam’s flagship sustainability programme, with holistic economic, social and environmental support.
Receiving the donation, Minister of State in Charge of Food & Agriculture and Chairman of the planning committee for this year’s celebration, Hon. Dr. Gyiele Nurah, expressed gratitude to the company for their donation.
He said the donations will help give due recognition and ago a long way to help recognise and reward hard-working farmers in the country.
Olam Ghana Limited, established in 1994, is one of the leading food and agri-business companies in the country; it is the largest private Licensed Buying Company (LBC) in the cocoa sector and buys cashew from more than 25,000 farmers.
