Unichem Ghana donates medicines, pledges to deliver healthcare in the fight against coronavirus

Unichem Ghana Group- one of the leading pharmaceutical marketing & distribution companies here in Ghana, have come forward with medical donations over the last few days at 4 of the earmarked COVID Case Management Centers– KORLE-BU Teaching Hospital (KBTH), 37 Military Hospital, Tema General Hospital & Ridge Hospital.

Senior Pharmacists from the Unichem Management Team led the donation with

AZILEX (Azithromycin) - the drug which has been shown to be effective in treating COVID-19 & reducing the duration of the virus in patients (when used as a combination with hydroxychloroquine, a popular anti-malaria drug). Although there has been no official “Cure” or vaccine developed- this combination has proven successful in France, & was published in International Journal of Antimicrobial Agents.

Unichem also donated products such as LUEX Cough Syrup & WORMBAT (a locally made de-wormer manufactured by Unichem Industries).

Some of Unichem’s Global partners like LUEX U.K.are supporting the ongoing global clinical trial efforts for Hydroxychloroquine with Azithromycin combination by undergoing studies & compiling key data.

Senior Pharmacist of Unichem Ghana Group - Mr. Solomon Odamtten urged that “We are still a long way off from a perfect healthcare system, however thanks to the professional, committed & compassionate medical workers on the frontline- the country is in good hands.

He assured the public that Unichem will continue to deliver quality healthcare & pledge to fight the virus together.
