Mr Sulemanu Koney, Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Chamber of Mines, has applauded President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for exempting mine workers from the restrictions following the coronavirus outbreak in the country.
The president placed restrictions on the movement of people in some parts of the country as part of his measures to deal with the COVID-19.
But he exempted mine workers and a few others from the restriction.
Reacting to this, Mr Koneh told the Daily Graphic in an interview on April 5 that “Mining’s contribution to the economy is enormous; we all know it.
“Now, the price is quite firm and so you do not want to undermine production,” he said, noting that it was “a plus” that mining operations were exempted from the ongoing lockdown.
